There is something inherently magical about Lewes. As "Delaware’s First Town," it carries a quiet sophistication that Katlyn and Nico embodied perfectly. Their six-hour celebration was a masterclass in intentionality, focusing on the moments that truly mattered and the people who make life beautiful.
Artistry in the Park
The day began in Lewes Park. As a photographer, you often look at structures and calculate the light—I’ll admit, I was initially wary of the "stick-style" pavilion for the ceremony. However, that’s where the artistry comes in. The way the light filtered through the architecture created a stunning, rhythmic shadow-play that ended up being one of the most unique visual elements of the day. It was a beautiful reminder that when you trust the process, the environment offers up its own kind of magic.
A Full-Circle Moment
On a personal note, this wedding hit home for us. During the ceremony, we came to find the officiant was a childhood pastor of Mark’s (my husband and associate shooter). It was one of those "get you in the feels" moments that makes you pause and realize how far you've come. It grounded us in the gravity of the day; we aren't just taking pictures, we are documenting legacies—just like the ones we've been a part of since childhood.
Golden Hour & Dolphins at Sea
If there was a "crown jewel" of this wedding, it was the cocktail hour. We traded the traditional ballroom for the open water, boarding with Captain HD for a boat tour that took the entire party out toward the iconic lighthouses.
Between the salty breeze and the clink of glasses, we were even treated to a pod of dolphins jumping alongside the boat. It was truly magical—one of those rare, "pinch-me" experiences that left everyone in awe of the coastal beauty we get to call home.
Celebration at The Wheelhouse
We capped the evening at The Wheelhouse, which is easily one of our favorite spots in town. Leslie Inkster and her team made sure every detail was seamless. The atmosphere was a reflection of Katlyn and Nico themselves: warm, inviting, and filled with evident love, while DJ Smoky (Smoky Lansdowne) kept the energy perfect all night long.
What made this day truly stand out was the couple's appreciation for the craft. When clients understand and value the artistry behind the lens, it fuels our creativity. It makes us want to push boundaries and give our absolute best work.
